Machining of hard metal

Recently, we were able to achieve another success: our team from the precision manufacturing laboratory machined carbide, type K40UF. The metal is characterised by its high hardness (up to 92 HRA / 1610 HV30), high bending strength (up to 3500 N/mm2) as well as high toughness. With tools and competent support from 6C Tools AG, we produced a first demo part on our “MicroHD” from Kern Microtechnik GmbH.

The video impressively shows what is possible with a well-matched combination of machine tool, tool and process know-how, even with hard materials. The clamping of the workpiece is also essential, implemented with a zero-point clamping system from EROWA AG and a self-centering mechanical vice from Evard Precision SA.
