The government wants to boost the canton's appeal as a location and enhance its innovative strength. On 30 November 2025, the canton's population will vote on a key element of these efforts: the expansion and renovation of the clean room at the Buchs campus.
OST – University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland and RhySearch – Forschungs- und Innovationstentrum Rheintal operate a clean room at the Buchs campus. A clean room is a specially designed space where the temperature, pressure, humidity and air purity can be precisely controlled. Clean rooms must meet high standards. This makes them complex and expensive to operate.
The current facilities and equipment are no longer state-of-the-art. The clean room will soon no longer meet current requirements either. Under the name 'Sensor Innovation Hub', the cleanroom is therefore to be modernised and expanded.
