Precision Manufacturing

In precision manufacturing, workpieces with tolerances in the micro or even nanometer range are machined. For example, flatness of surfaces with less than one micrometer per 100 mm edge length or roughness of less than 10 nm can be achieved. To prevent vibrations during machining, a special machine design is used. In addition, environmental conditions, such as room temperature, must be controlled and managed within a narrow range.

Many companies from the MEM sector (mechanical, electrical, metal industry) depend on the production of such precise and high-quality components and assemblies, which are used for example in optics, measurement, medical or drive technology.

Publications

Our employees in the Ultra-Precision Manufacturing Lab are recognized experts in their field and regularly publish scientific work in the form of papers, presentations and lectures. 

We also support students who are interested in writing their dissertation, bachelor or master thesis in the field of ultra-precision machining and coordinate metrology of form, dimension and position tolerances in the sub-micrometer range.
